To know me you wouldn’t necessarily think of me as someone who LOVES color. Nor someone who would be writing a post on who to wear bright colors for fall. I’ve often said my favorite ‘colors’ are black and white. Yet here we are! Every now and again I love a pop of color – and this pink sweater is no exception.
Okay so let’s get to the point- what’s the key to pulling off a bright color when everyone around you seems to be wearing rust, orange, brown – and more rust lol. I’m not a fan of the color rust if you can tell.
Anyhow, The first and most obvious thing is to just do you and not care what others around you think. I mean – someone DID tell me that this sweater reminder them of something their sister wore in the 90’s – major eye roll. And also, I love the 90’s so thanks, I guess?
Outside of that here’s a few tangible tips to take with you when styling your bright pieces this fall:
Pair your bright item with darker neutrals – I love a bright color moment paired with white for summer, but for fall try pairing it with dark denim, and colors from the camel/tan category or even gray.
Add texture – look for pieces that have a lot of texture to them like my sweater or add texture by layering on a chunky scarf or coat. Thicker, chunkier textures just scream fall so if the item you have is let’s say – a silky blouse in a bright color, try adding a chunky knit over top of it for more of a ‘fall vibe’.
Accessorize – When all else fails, add fall accessories. I love this felt fedora from Lack of Colour – I hate the idea of spending money on a hat but I will say this one is well worth it. I’ve had it for years and it’s held it’s shape over time. This one from Urban is on my radar as well. Other accessories to add are chunky boots, cozy cardigans, scarves, etc!
*Sweater runs big – this is size xxs
*Booties are Sam Edelman and I’m obsessed with them. Perfect western booties for fall without being too much of a cowboy boot. Run true to size
*Jeans are Levi’s Mile High skinnies and omg I wish I would have ordered these sooner! They’re a little long for me but I just roll them under for now until I can get them tailored.
