After taking these photos I am pretty sure I should be packing for a tropical vacation due to the level of tan I feel is needed, however I am not. Instead getting ready to head to Ohio where I am told it isn’t quite that cold yet but nonetheless I don’t see myself wearing a summer dress with a fuzzy sweater draped over it.
Lately I have been talking a lot about making your old items new again and I find myself implementing my own advice, which is a new thing…not too sure how long that will last. Either way I find it fun to incorporate pieces from different seasons into the same outfit. I guess we have some more freedom to do so in Southern California but I believe it can be done in most climates.
Some tips for incorporating items you thought were season-bound into your winter wardrobe:
1. Tights are your best friend- For most of us this is a no-brainer but maybe it isn’t a dress that you want to wear to the holiday party but those cute lace-y shorts you were rocking all summer. Add some tights, silk blouse, & a blazer and you have the perfect winterized holiday outfit. **As an added tip I would recommend purchasing opaque tights instead of sheer ones as these seem to be a bit thicker which will keep you all the warmer after the sun sets and it starts to get chilly**
2. Layer a cute cropped sweater over a dress- This will keep you warmer, create a new fun silhouette & allow you to get more use out of that little striped number you thought was retired until next spring.
3. No show socks- These are great to keep your toes just a little warmer when those cold months start to roll in. I am a HUGE fan of wearing flats to the office so these are great for those mornings when I have to leave super early and want to keep my feet warm. Also, for those of you in cooler climates this is a great way for you to continue wearing your flats during the colder months.
4. Turtlenecks- Okay, so as soon as I wrote the word “turtleneck” I started conjuring up images of when we were younger and my Mom made us layer turtlenecks under everything from sweatshirts to vest when Fall rolled around. For the purposes of this article I am thinking of a more chic way to rock a turtleneck. J.Crew has a great “tissue turtleneck” which I own in several colors, are very affordable, and are perfect to layer under sleeveless dresses, vests, coats, etc. Try layering a turtleneck under that a leather mini for an edgy, chic, yet warm vibe.
5. OTK Boots- I am a huge fan of the OTK boots right now, as I am sure many of you are too! These look absolutely adorable with mini dresses, even the floral ones from summer. Just add tights & voila. Chic, warm, and utilizing your sunny summer dress.

Hahahah Oh my god thanks for the turtleneck flashback! My mom would make me wear this black velvet one for picture day at school all the time! Did you ever get shnazzy and wear a necklace, dangling out the top of the turtle neck? I had this frog necklace I would always wear on a silver chain and I would hang it out the top of the neck. So embarrassing. Anyways, I really love how you're styling a summery dress for winter! It's cozy and fresh without looking out of season at all. Really good balance 😉 I can always count on your for creative outfit ideas! Have a safe trip to Ohio! Don't feel bad, I need a tropical vacation too. Maybe we can run away together hahaha

Pairing up my summer dresses with a cardigan and tights is what I am doing recently. They don't only look good but also keep me warm too. I like your outfit, it looks so pretty!
